Frequently Asked Questions

About the Companies

Why did Litera Microsystems acquire Workshare?

Our goal is to help lawyers, law firms and professionals focus on what matters, their clients.

We do this by simplifying the ownership of document drafting technology which firms need – enabling them to get best of breed products from a single integrated supplier. With Workshare we take another step towards achieving that goal.

Both companies have been involved in key legal technology innovation over the last decade and are a natural fit to drive the next wave of change in the industry.

We firmly believe that the market, our customers and our partners are better served by bringing these two leading companies together. To learn about our vision, see https://www.litera.com/one-vendor/.

How long will it take for the companies to be fully integrated?

The most important part of this combination is to ensure that our clients’ business is not interrupted, and we plan to integrate the companies carefully and deliberately. Workshare will be fully integrated into Litera Microsystems by the end of the year. Both companies will continue to operate independently in the near term as detailed integration plans progress.

What will the combined company be called?

We’ll spend the next few weeks speaking to customers before making a decision.

Who will be leading the company?

The CEO is Avaneesh Marwaha, who has led Litera Microsystems since 2016 and oversaw the successful integration of the four companies which formed Litera Microsystems in 2017.

How can I stay up to date on progress of the integration?

We will be creating an Integration web page which will be accessible from the websites of both companies in order to provide ongoing information and updates.

About Our Customers

What does this combination mean for customers?

The first thing to note is that Litera Microsystems and Workshare have been through this process before when Litera, Microsystems, XRef and The Sackett Group were merged and when Workshare acquired Skydox and Ideaplane.

Our promises are the same ones we’ve delivered on in the past:

  1. We won’t make decisions in a vacuum – we will be working with our customers to understand how we better meet their needs once these companies are fully integrated.
  2. We will continue to support existing solutions for the foreseeable future.
  3. We’ll announce an updated product roadmap by the end of Q3 this year, with updates following every subsequent quarter.

How does this affect my contracts, fees, and rates?

Your contracts will remain intact. Through renewal processes, we will look to consolidate contracts into one and co-term renewal dates.

Who should our team call for support? Will the support hours change?

There is no immediate change to support. Please continue to contact support in the same way you do now. We will clearly communicate any changes.

What’s the long-term impact for us as a customer?

In the long term, we want to change the way you view the purchasing of document drafting solutions. We want you to be able to buy best of breed products, which integrate seamlessly, and be able to do so from a single supplier.

For more on our vision, see https://www.litera.com/one-vendor/.

About Our Products

Will any of our products be retired?

There are no immediate plans to do so. Our products are used by tens of thousands of users every day and a big part of why we wanted to combine these companies, as such we will continue to support the products. We are always reviewing products with an eye on what our customers need from us, and these will be no different.

Our company is about to buy a solution from Litera Microsystems or Workshare. Should we wait or reconsider?

No, we do not believe you should wait but make the decision that meets your business needs and we will support you now and in the future. The benefit and value of all products is unchanged. Regardless of which product you are currently on, or about to buy, you will be provided with an update path to the future product that minimizes disruption. We have a proven track record of integrating companies in a way which results in minimal disruption for our customers or their plans.

How does this affect the products we currently use? Should we expect any changes to any of our solutions?

We have a proven track record of integrating companies in a way that results in minimal disruption for our customers and we’re making that same commitment now. All products will continue to be supported and updated for the foreseeable future.

Where there is product overlap, we will be spending the next year working on a future product that contains the best features of both products. For comparison, we will be building on the Workshare Compare platform. For metadata and security, we will be building on the Metadact platform.

Will there be any more updates to Change-Pro Premier or Workshare Secure?

All product roadmaps will stay intact through 2019. Then, we will continue to support all products and release maintenance fixes while enhancing the new, best-of-breed products.

Will Compare be updated to include Change-Pro features?

Yes. Feature parity will not happen immediately; over the next year, we will work to bring the best of both products into a single platform. Our product roadmap includes improved table support, better handling of embedded objects, and more.

Will Metadact be updated to include Workshare Secure features?

Yes. Over the next year, we will update the user interface and functionality of Metadact to strengthen its data loss prevention capabilities. Many of these updates have already been on the product roadmap.

What will happen to any feature requests that we made for one of these products?

All roadmaps will stay intact through 2019. Any requested enhancements will be handled in the normal manner for now. As we execute our integration plans, we will use these as an input into our product integration and innovation discussions.

If we have Change-Pro, should we switch to Compare? If we have Secure, should we switch to Metadact?

Not unless you want to. All product roadmaps are intact through the end of the year. If you decide you want to switch, we will provide a path that allows you to update.

We are in the process of evaluating Litera Desktop. Will we be forced to implement the consolidated products?

We will work with you to determine the solution that best suits the needs of your firm, whether that is Compare or Change-Pro for document comparison. For metadata cleaning, we recommend Metadact but will work with you to find the best fit. In the coming months, we will provide a path for all customers to update to the best-of-breed solutions.

What does the future look like for Workshare Transact?

We’re very excited about Workshare Transact. There has been positive sentiment around the platform for a long time and it has made significant progress in the last couple of years. We look forward to continuing its evolution to bring the most value to our customers.

About Doxly

Why did Litera acquire Doxly?

Our goal is to help lawyers, law firms and professionals focus on what matters, their clients. With that in mind, we see a real opportunity to simplify the complex area of transaction management using technology. It is a natural extension of our focus, given its position in the document drafting lifecycle, and the acquisition of Doxly helps further strengthen our expertise in what we believe is going to be a huge growth area for transactional law.

What does this combination mean for Doxly customers?

In the short term, Doxly customers can expect to almost immediately benefit from the world-class customer service and support which Litera customers have access to.

Longer term, our promises are the same ones we’ve delivered on in the past:

  1. We won’t make decisions in a vacuum – we will be working with our customers to understand how we better meet their needs once these companies are fully
  2. We will continue to support existing solutions for the foreseeable

For more on our vision, see https://www.litera.com/one-vendor/.

Who should our team call for support? Will the support hours change?

Over the coming weeks the Doxly and Litera support teams will integrate into a single team. Customers will be contacted individually to inform them of how and when this will happen.

Are there plans to integrate Doxly and Transact in some manner?

Both platforms have their advantages and one of our high priority goals it to establish what a best-of- breed solution would look like. We have a proven track record of doing this in a way that minimizes disruption to customers and keeps them informed on decisions as they happen. We will do this in consultation with our customers.

What will happen to any feature requests that we made for one of the products?

All roadmaps are intact today. Any requested enhancements will be handled in the normal manner for now. As we execute our integration plans, we will use these as an input into our product integration & innovation discussions.
