Microsystems Unveils PDF Conversion Cleanup Feature

On Mon 17 Apr 2017

DocXtools Companion Enhancement Bridges PDF to Word, Addresses Legal Industry Pain Point

Downers Grove, IL - August 31, 2016 - Microsystems, the leading provider of document authoring, editing, formatting, proofreading, and metadata scrubbing software serving the legal and life sciences industries, today announced the release of its new PDF Conversion Cleanup feature. A time-saving addition to DocXtools Companion, the new software is a technology-bridge for converting PDFs to editable Word documents.

"The conversion of a PDF to an editable Word document is a time consuming problem for the legal profession that has gotten significantly worse over the past five years," said Barbara Seaver, Training Consultant for law firms across the US, Europe and Asia including Orrick, Herrington & Sutcliffe LLP, Jones Day, Mayer Brown LLP, and Latham & Watkins. "This issue comes up more often than any other document problem that confronts my legal clients and can represent as much as 75% of all document work issues coming through a law firm," she added.

PDF Conversion Cleanup has been designed to bridge the divide between PDF and Word document formats, without adding complexity or requiring time consuming end-user training. Leveraging ADI (artificial document intelligence), PDF Conversion Cleanup identifies common scanner mistakes, removes unnecessary coding, corrects substitution errors, and intelligently reflows document paragraphs so that users can spend more time authoring and less time editing.

"As a matter of security, people prefer to share documents formatted as a PDF, but this presents a problem in the drafting phase. Once converted to editable Word documents using available OCR software, they are littered with inconsistencies and errors. Creating a clean, final version requires time and technical savvy," explained Matt Miller, Product Manager at Microsystems. "The painstaking process of manually cleaning scanner inaccuracies and re-formatting documents, which usually requires assistance from technical-support, is replaced with a single mouse click," he said.
